I was diagnosed with MG in the early 1960's as a
teenager. I was lucky that I had a very good
Neurologist who helped me with my medication
and my general wellbeing as a person to
continue a normal lifestyle.
I had my thymus gland removed and it was a
success, and I was one of the first people to
have it done in Brisbane. I have lived a normal
life and have been off all medication for quite a
few years now.
My greatest challenge and triumph was falling
pregnant with MG. Having a baby via c-section
while awake, well it wasn't really done back
then. I was a good test dummy, Drs trying
different things that were not previously done.
I have raised my daughter into womanhood, and
I do my bit to spread awareness.
In the past I have volunteered as a patient actor
for medical student assessments.
MG is rare and provides them with both a
challenge in their exams and a learning
opportunity - as it usually stumps them.
I enjoy facilitating Coffee and Chats around
Brisbane for the MGAQ as I enjoy listening to
other people's journeys and how they are
coping with MG - spreading the awareness.
As a member of the committee for MGAQ I do
my part helping organise our many activities
and awareness raising campaigns.
